Project Areas

Food Security

Every year over 36 million people die of starvation and across the world over 800 million people suffer from hunger and malnutrition.

SCIAF supports its partner organisations to strengthen access and provision of food to poor communities through the provision of seeds, tools and agricultural training; by supporting farmer co-operatives and reintroducing traditional and organic farming; through environmental protection programmes, water provision and conservation projects.

Peace and Conflict

War and conflict often erode the basic national infrastructure –homes and schools, roads, transport and farmland - which enable people to support themselves and their families.

SCIAF works through local organisations to help people meet basic needs like food and provides longer term psychosocial support, conflict resolution training, education, peace building and communications programmes.

HIV/AIDS

Two thirds of those infected with HIV/AIDS live in sub-Saharan Africa.

SCIAF works with local organisations to provide services which restrict the spread and growth of HIV/AIDS and support those affected by the disease. These include HIV/AIDS prevention programmes, support for widows and orphans, vocational training, awareness raising, counselling, healthcare, and education for young people.

Disability

People with mental and physical disabilities can be the most marginalised, overlooked and poorest members of communities in developing countries.

SCIAF supports its partners to improve the lives of people with disabilities so that they can play a more active role in their communities and contribute more fully in the struggle to overcome poverty and injustice. We also work with communities to overcome prejudice and dismantle social barriers which often prevent people with disabilities realising their full potential.
