Aimerance was 23 when a group of men attacked in the night, torturing and killing her husband and two children. She was abducted and repeatedly raped. As well as the mental trauma, she lives with serious internal injuries. Yet she is still willing to speak out for change.

The scale and brutality of violence against women in the DRC is almost unimaginable. In a country that has been in a state of war for most of the last decade, women are not only living in fear of the thousands of armed combatants operating in the region, but face attacks by civilians and even the police and army.
