Make Trade Fair

Fair trade guarantees a fair price for small scale farmers and producers in developing countries, and the more the fair trade market grows, the more livelihoods are improved and made secure.

In 2006, the then Scottish First Minister, Jack McConnell, announced that Scotland was to become a Fair Trade Nation- increasing the fair trade market in Scotland by ensuring at least 40% of people are buying fair trade products regularly, and ensuring that all cities achieve Fair Trade status.

SCIAF campaigners helped push the Scottish Government into making this policy as meaningful as possible, and in Oct 2006, the Scottish Fair Trade Forum was set up to put words into action.

The Forum works to make Scotland a nation which is a global leader in challenging global poverty and recognises the dignity and rights of producers through a commitment to fairness in international trading.
