Robin Hood Tax

Thousands of you, all across Scotland, took part in our Robin Hood Tax campaign.

Together with more than 100 organisations, and more than 50,000 people across the UK, we called for a tiny tax of 0.05% on huge international financial transactions (like hedge funds or derivatives) which would raise billions of pounds every year to fight poverty and climate change.

This tax could turn the crisis for the banks into an opportunity for the world- and more than 3,000 of you joined our merry band and took action!

People across Scotland- from music lovers at T in the Park, to pilgrims at the Papal Mass, and even bobbies on the beat at Glasgow’s West End Festival- all spoke out for a progressive, simple, and fair tax that would raise the funds to help end poverty.

We took the thousands of campaign postcards to the very highest levels of Government, and handed them over to Secretary of State for Scotland, Michael Moore. With momentum growing for the tax, and more and more governments including France and Germany getting behind the tax, we hope that the UK won’t be far behind!

Rt Hon Michael Moore reinforced the government’s commitment to fighting global poverty, and said:

“Scotland has always been at the forefront of international development…In these difficult economic times the coalition government's commitment to increase the levels of overseas aid remains unchanged. This is an important example of the core values of our nation.”

He wouldn’t commit to the Robin Hood Tax then and there, but promised to follow up our demands at the top tiers of government. We’ll keep you updated!
