Fundraising stars at an East Kilbride school have raised over £2,500 for SCIAF's Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
Students in 5th and 6th year at St Andrews and St Brides reached their impressive total in just one day after clubbing together to arrange a whole school collection.
The money is being used to provide people who lost their homes in the earthquake with food, water, tents, blankets and medical care.
John Sharp. SCIAF’s School’s Officer visited the school to thank staff and pupils for their generous donations and to explain how SCIAF is helping people in Haiti.
He said: “I want to say a big thankyou to everyone at St Andrews and St Brides for their amazing fundraising efforts. Every donation we receive for our Haiti Earthquake Appeal allows us to continue delivering emergency aid to the people who need it most. It will also help to support long-term recovery in Haiti so that people can get back on their feet and start to rebuild their lives.”
SCIAF is working with Caritas Internationalis – a global network of development charities – to ensure that emergency aid is reaching people on the ground in Haiti. Hundreds of volunteers are distributing food, water, first aid, tents, blankets, cooking equipment, fuel and water purification tablets. Two mobile operating theatres and six mobile clinics have also been set up to treat people that have been injured.
