SCIAF supporter, John Qureshi took part in the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow to raise funds for SCIAF and increase awareness of the organisation's work.

The 24 year old parishioner of Saint Kentigerns Church in Edinburgh ran in the half marathon, covering 13 miles across the city centre and south side of Glasgow. He completed the course in 1 hr 37 minutes and 51 seconds and raised over £300 for SCIAF in the process.

Speaking after the race, John said:

“I find an event like the Great Scottish Run very inspiring; to see so many people who are willing to put a great deal of time and effort into raising money to assist vulnerable and suffering members of society - at home as well as overseas. The race may have been difficult but I will do it again, and I don’t have any doubt I will be doing it for SCIAF.

"The race wasn’t easy. Despite having run the equivalent distance several times before, you can never predict how you are going to perform on the day. I found certain parts – in particular going through Bellahouston and Pollock parks - very difficult. However it never occurred to me to give up after the weeks I had spent training and after so many people had sponsored and supported me.

"The crowds that stood and cheered on the runners were a different class, particularly on Pollockshaws Road when I really felt that I was beginning to flag. The sound of their cheering gave me a great boost."
