My next visit is to another SCIAF-funded project through the organisation ITECA which works specifically with peasant women as well as representing them at a political level through a national platform.
SCIAF is funding a three year project with ITECA, working with a nationwide network of 3000 women in five regions of Haiti supporting rural communities. The project helps women to meet their immediate needs, and those of their families, in the short term while also strengthening their organisations in the long struggle for basic human rights.
An important part of the project is the establishment of a ‘Women’s Peasant Platform’ which, starting at the grassroots will promote the equality of women in their communities and also, campaign at a national level for better conditions for women. In three days I will visit three separate and very remote communities.
