Saturday 2nd June

Morning

Well, the day is finally here! We’re assembled in the square outside Rostock train station, and the people just keep coming. There’s music and dancing and coffee and amazing German cakes, and everybody has made loads of effort with making colourful banners. We just met some students from Edinburgh too, so I’m delighted that so many Scots are determined to represent Scotland on the world stage!

The weather isn’t as great as I’d hoped, but hopefully the rain that seems to be threatening will stay off for the rest of the afternoon. Anyway, we need to get ready to go, so more updates later.

We’ve made it back to the hotel! We’ve been marching for four hours through central Rostock, which despite being a wee bit cold, is a beautiful town. We paraded our Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) banner and our SCIAF banner alongside the campaigners from Jubilee South, and just next to a great samba band. Journalists from all over Europe and beyond clamoured to speak to the campaigners on the march, and photographers were climbing over each other to capture all the dancers, clowns, drummers, singers and happy campaigners on the march. I was even interviewed by Belgian radio!
