Learning the Language
Time is flying by so quickly! We're at the end of week two and things are shaping up nicely at the school. I'm getting to know the children's names and their different personalities. I have received my first ever homework assignment and am finally used to no longer being called Pauline, but 'Teacher, Teacher!' instead.
I have been learning the local language, Tigrinya, and am getting lessons from one of my students, Gebremedhin. I’ve got two pages of vocabulary to learn for next Saturday but I think my pronunciation must leave a lot to be desired, as whenever I speak, the kids laugh uncontrollably. Apparently the combination of accents from the West of Scotland and Northern Ethiopia is a hilarious one!
