The School

Well, we've made it through a week of teaching, and we're pretty much intact.

I am very new to teaching, but I'm enjoying the new experience all the same. While I find myself on the receiving end of more than a few blank stares, (which I'm optimistically attributing to the Glaswegian accent) some of the kids are really very bright, and all of them are keen to learn and happy to be in school.

I have four classes - two advanced, which only I teach, plus one intermediate and one beginner which I share with my fellow volunteers, Kathleen and Janet. Since we have no official curriculum, and no access to the materials used in the government schools, I find that I am spending a lot of time planning lessons from scratch. We have four lessons a day, four days a week, and group activities on Wednesdays, so it's a lot of work!
