We are working with partners from Caritas Internationalis - a global network of Catholic development agencies - to get help to those who need it most.

Twenty trucks of Caritas aid - including 200,00 blankets, 15,000 tents, food parcels, containers for water and water purification tablets - arrived in Port-au-Prince on Sunday and hundreds of volunteers are distributing emergency supplies.

Two mobile operating theatres and six mobile clinics have also been set up to help care for those that have been injured.

SCIAF's Chief Executive, Paul Chitnis said:

"The response of the Scottish public to the Haiti earthquake disaster highlights once again the overwhelming generosity of the nation.

"These vital funds will ensure aid continues to get to those in need so they can survive the traumatic events they are going through and rebuild their lives. It is vital that the public continue to do whatever they can to help agencies such as SCIAF deliver the emergency relief on the ground.”

Volunteers are preparing food packages to feed 50,000 people. Each contains juice, sardines, sausage, peanut butter, nuts, granola bars, canned fruit, black beans and saltine crackers. Water storage containers, water purification tablets, hygiene kits, cooking utensils, plastic sheeting and fuel are being collected in Haiti and the Dominican Republic and more aid is on its way.
