SCIAF is continuing to work with local partners in Haiti to provide vital support to thousands of people following the devastating earthquake on 12th January 2010.
Caritas Haiti is providing clean water, hygiene kits, toilets and showers to people living in the many makeshift camps around Port-au-Prince.
Responding to the cholera infections Caritas is also distributing medicines, hand sanitisers, and information leaflets on the precautions people should take to prevent further infection.
THANK YOU to everyone who donated to our Haiti earthquake appeal.
Cardinal Keith O'Brien is currently in Haiti with SCIAF Chief Executive Paul Chitnis to mark the first anniversary. Over the coming days he will visit several SCIAF-funded projects in and around the capital city Port-au-Prince.
SCIAF has been working in Haiti since 1987 and with your help, we will continue to work with Haitians to rebuild their country.
Since the earthquake struck SCIAF has been working with partners and Caritas Internationalis, the global network of Catholic aid agencies, which is one of the world’s biggest humanitarian organisations.
The Caritas Internationalis emergency response, supported by SCIAF, has benefited:
280,000 people with hygiene kits, latrines and washing facilities;
170,000 people by providing drinking water in camps;
160,000 people with emergency shelters or temporary housing; and
40,000 people provided with cash for work
Conditions in the earthquake-affected areas of Haiti remain extremely difficult. It will take years for for the country to fully recover from this disaster. Thanks to you, SCIAF will be helping people to get back on their feet, long into the future.
