Drawing Lines in the Sand

Whilst the work of transnational corporations can bring vital inward investment to developing countries, their activities can also have a negative impact on poor communities.

Following the discovery of vast oil reserves in Rajastan, India, a subsidiary of Scottish company Cairn Energy, constructed a 600km pipeline to extract the natural resource. This is helping to generate income in a country which is home to a third of the world's poorest people.

However, following visits to villages on the route of the pipeline, both before and after construction, SCIAF's latest report looks at the impact the pipeline has had, and continues to have, on some communities in Rajastan and Gujarat.

With Corporate Social Responsibility being the 'buzz words' of many modern corporations, Lines in the Sand, adds to the debate on how we get the balance right between people and profit.
