It was a fantastic effort by this fabulous and very generous parish. This week we tell the story of their efforts in SCIAF Photo Friday.
Around ten million people across the Horn and East of Africa are being hit by the worst drought in 60 years as consecutive seasonal rains have failed, leading to major shortages in food and water, crop failure and the widespread death of livestock.
High levels of malnutrition are reported amongst children and hundreds of thousands of people are moving away from their homes in search of food, water and shelter. It has been a brilliant effort from Scotland in responding to this appeal. Like many Scottish parishes, St Gregory's thought there could be no worthier cause for them to support this year than our emergency appeal. The gallery below shows some of the best images from the day.
It was their aim to raise £3,500 for the SCIAF Appeal. St Gregory’s is 7,000 miles from The Horn of Africa, they wanted to raise 50p per mile to hit their target. To help them on their way they happened upon the novel idea of using a toy Land Rover and being sponsored at 50p per mile.
They really got the wheels turning for SCIAF. When their Land Rover made it to the Horn of Africa they were able to donate the fantastic total of £3,500 to the appeal.
Well done to St Gregory's - check out their Fun Run blog here. If you have a great story about your parish please get in touch with @rlamb@sciaf.org.uk and you could feature on the website.
