Singing for SCIAF

The Spirit of Life Youth Choir will be singing to raise funds for SCIAF’s Horn and East Africa Appeal on the 15th September in Glasgow. Why not join them for a lovely night of song?

The Music for Famine Relief Concert will take place in St Andrew's Metropolitan Cathedral on Clyde Street, Glasgow from 7.30pm. The event is the perfect example of how expression through the arts can provide the ideal opportunity to raise awareness and funds for vital work in developing nations.

Stephen Callaghan, Creative Director, Glasgow Archdiocese Arts Project told SCIAF:

"Concerts like this are a great example of the great social service that art renders to society: whilst our brothers and sisters in Africa benefit economically, we ourselves will benefit culturally from the talents of the young performers. It is right that the Church is at the heart of this and AGAP is delighted to be associated with SLYC and with the work of SCIAF.”

Entry is by donation, so please do give what you can and help raise funds for our emergency appeal. All funds raised will be generously given to the Horn and East of Africa Emergency Appeal.

The Spirit of Life Youth Choir believe that events like this help us reflect and give thanks for how very fortunate we are, taking time to raise much needed donations for those in need. The choir members are between 12 and 21 with the aim of the choir being to enrich their members with a strong feeling of citizenship.

All their profits after running costs are generously donated to charities working with the most vulnerable people across the globe demonstrating a true passion for helping people through their gift.

Joan Dillon, Spirit of Life Youth Choir Director explains:

"It is an honour for all of us involved in this concert to give our talents in aid of the outstanding work that SCIAF accomplishes through it's many projects but especially at this time of intense crisis in the Horn of Africa.

"Indeed, such a crisis helps us to reflect and appreciate how privileged our lives are given that we can enjoy an evening of beautiful music in the most pleasant of surroundings at St. Andrew's Cathedral, whilst those we seek to help are totally preoccupied with the most basic task of all - survival. How quickly anyone of those struggling with starvation and homelessness would swap places with us. We are fortunate beyond our own understanding."

Several SCIAF staff members will be in attendance for the event. Please join us and help raise vital funds for our ongoing emergency appeal for the Horn and East of Africa.
