Global trade rules are trapping people in poverty across the developing world. Join thousands in taking a step to help them in 2012
Millions of people depend on farming to make a living for their families. Unfortunately, these people are at the very start of a supply chain and trade keeps them from earning enough to cover their costs. This prevents people from saving for the future or even just feeding their families in the short term.
Fairtrade tackles inequality by offering farmers and workers in developing countries a better chance to work their way out of poverty, through fairer wages, safer conditions at work and a little extra (Fairtrade premium) to invest in projects to improve life for their whole communities. This means they don't just manage to feed their families for today, but their communities can continue to develop for the future.
You can watch the fantastic Fairtrade Foundation Steps film below:
Fairtrade Fortnight will take place from February 27th 2012 - 11th March 2012. Why not take a step for Fairtrade? It could be a smaller gesture, like switching to drinking Fairtrade tea or a large one like helping your town become a Fairtrade town!
