This year Scots from all walks of life were joined by some of Scotland’s most famous people including Susan Boyle, The Proclaimers, Eddi Reader, Ally McCoist and Katie Leung, in giving something up and putting the money they saved into a SCIAF WEE BOX.
In 2010 the the campaign raised £889,875. Hopefully we can get that total a little higher this year.
You can send in their WEE BOX donations by
- calling 0141 354 5555
- donating online at www.theweebox.org or www.sciaf.org.uk
- posting a cheque to 19 Park Circus, Glasgow, G3 6BE, or
- returning WEE BOXES to their local parish or Catholic school.
Paul Chitnis, SCIAF’s Chief Executive, said:
“I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in this year’s WEE BOX, BIG Change campaign. The money raised will go a long way to helping some of the poorest people in the world get the practical and long term support they need to work their way out of poverty.
“I have just returned from visiting projects supported by SCIAF in India. I was so impressed to see how the lives of thousands have been changed for the better. We have helped set up the first trade union for domestic workers helping them to earn a decent wage, free of abuse and harassment; we have helped hundreds of impoverished women to set up small businesses, feed their families and send the children to school; we have supported thousands of disabled people, the poorest of the poor, to live fuller, more dignified lives as full participants in Indian society. All of this has been made possible thanks to SCIAF supporters around Scotland. “
“To help us put the money raised to work as quickly as possible we are asking everyone to send their money to SCIAF as soon as possible. We will make sure that every penny is used wisely and efficiently so it has the biggest impact it can in helping people in need.”
