Climate Change

SCIAF Global Warning report

Climate change is an issue of justice and it represents one of the most dangerous threats to progress in the struggle against global poverty.

It is already causing disproportionate harm to the poorest and most vulnerable people on earth… the very people who have done least to cause it.

Hundreds of millions of people are affected by climate-related events (like hurricanes, floods and drought) each year – the vast majority of them live in developing countries.

SCIAF has been campaigning for climate justice since 2007 as part of the Stop Climate Chaos Scotland coalition and through the CIDSE and Caritas Catholic aid agency networks.

In June 2009, thanks to campaigners from across Scotland, the Scottish Government passed a world-leading Climate Change Act. And in December 2009, we travelled to Copenhagen to promote the Scottish example at the UN Climate Change Summit.
