Conflict is a cause and an effect of poverty. Each year, millions of people are killed, injured or forced to leave their homes as a result of armed conflict.
Families are torn apart, children miss out on an education and communities go hungry because it is too dangerous for them to farm their land.
Even after a peace settlement is reached the violence often continues. Sustained armed conflict can put a country’s development back years and plunge whole populations into poverty.
