The scale of sexual violence in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo is without precedent. Around 45 rapes are reported every day in South Kivu alone.
These brutal attacks leave survivors with long lasting emotional and physical scars and many are left with permanent damage to their internal organs, or are infected with sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS.
Sexual violence survivor, Claudine Ltsgulwanguma and her son Jean Paul (pictured) are being given the help they need to rebuild their lives thanks to SCIAF and the donations of the Scottish people.
