The Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission of Uvira provides medical and psychological support to approximately 1500 rape survivors every year.

Survivors receive urgent medical attention and are tested and treated for diseases.

The women also receive psychological support to help them come to terms with their experiences and rebuild their lives.

The most vulnerable women and girls, who have been abandoned or rejected by their families also receive help to set up small agricultural enterprises so that they can support themselves and their children.

To help put an end to the rape epidemic for good, CJDP runs education programmes to inform people about gender rights and the criminality of sexual violence. It also campaigns for better protection for women and the prosecution of offenders.
