Emergencies

SCIAF's primary focus is funding development projects implemented by local partner organisations.

SCIAF is in a strong position, with established partners, and as part of the international network of Catholic organisations, Caritas Internationalis, to make a significant contribution in emergency situations.

There are many different types of emergencies, some of which are immediate, such as hurricanes, flooding and landslides, and some of which may take longer to develop, such as famine. They may or may not attract media coverage.

SCIAF is a signatory to a number of documents which set out international minimum standards for responding to emergencies.

When responding to emergencies, SCIAF will always ensure that support is given for longer term rehabilitation, as well as initial relief work.
