Familias Especiales

Familias Especiales or Special Families provides employment and income-generating activities for families with disabled children.
Families of children with special needs often have few resources for dealing with their children. As a result they can be marginalised and disproportionately affected by poverty.
The organisation provides training and employment for young women with relatives who have special needs.
With assistance from SCIAF Familias Especiales families have set up a wheelchair workshop, recycling schemes and an arts and crafts shop, as well as producing their own dairy products. Children also receive physiotherapy sessions, academic support, and lunch when attending the special education centre in Matagalpa.
