Your guide to microfinance

This toolkit is the result of a microcredit workshop that took place at SCIAF's offices in Glasgow, UK, from the 5th-9th September 2005. The workshop was attended by SCIAF staff and the following representatives of SCIAF partner organisations.


  • Francois Mutula, from Codilusi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Franck coordinates STI and HIV/AIDS prevention activities in parishes, schools, hospitals and health centres in the Archdiocese of Bukavu.
  • Alargasay Chettear Radhakrishnan, from Outreach, India. Radhakrishnan is a programme officer with five years specialised experience in microfinance.
  • Beatrice Lubega works for AWOFS, in Uganda. She is the director of the AWOFS programme and has worked in several capacities as a social worker, programme manager and director.
  • Jose Santos Cruz from COMUS, in El Salvador. Santos has worked in COMUS for 15 years and is part of the credit committee. He has drawn up and carried out projects for small scale producers and has taken part in negotiations with government and industry.
  • Vongnarith Oum from CIDSE Cambodia is the Finance and Administrative Manager responsible for various tasks within the area of financial, programme, and administrative management.
  • Chris Sandan works from CIDSE Cambodia. She is the team leader of an integrated community development programme in the district of Cambodia called Muk Kampoul.
  • Additional input was received from John Patton of the Scottish League of Credit Unions. The workshop was facilitated by Peter James.
