Afghan Crisis Appeal
AFGHAN CRISIS APPEAL
The people of Afghanistan need our help. Today we have launched an emergency appeal for those affected by the crisis.
Following the withdrawal of Western allies in Afghanistan and the Taliban taking power, the country has been in turmoil. Many fear for their lives. Home is no longer safe.
In the midst of the turbulence, there have been targeted attacks on Kabul airport and fears of further acts of terrorism.
The UN worries the country is on the brink of a humanitarian disaster.
Thousands of people are now trying to leave Afghanistan. The UN refugee agency, UNHCR, estimates there could be up to 500,000 new Afghan refugees by the end of 2021. The international community is calling for open borders to ensure the safe passage of people who are seeking asylum elsewhere.
Thankfully, through the global Caritas Internationalis network, we are able to provide vital emergency relief. Our partners are making sure those in need have access to food, clean water, sanitation and hygiene kits to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Please keep the people of Afghanistan in your thoughts and prayers, and consider reaching out in compassion and donating today.
