It's time for a just and green world
As the UK and Scottish governments plan our recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, SCIAF is urging them to build back in way which puts people and planet first by protecting our common home.
Now is not the time to go back to normal. Normal is not good enough for millions of our sisters and brothers overseas who are facing the catastrophic consequences of climate change.
This is a historic turning point and we should answer Pope Francis’ call to hear the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.
Take action today by adding your name to our open letter to the First Minister and the Prime Minister.
Dear Prime Minister Boris Johnson and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon,
It’s time for a green and just world. You have the power to help us build back better by answering Pope Francis’ call to hear the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor. I urge you to:
- Build up our ability to cope with future crises by increasing support to the most vulnerable communities dealing with the twin emergencies of coronavirus and climate breakdown.
- Bail out people not big polluters. We should focus on re-skilling workers and decarbonising the economy in line with our Paris Agreement commitments to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
- Boost investment in Scotland’s Climate Justice Fund and use the UK’s global leadership role as host of the UN Climate Summit in Glasgow next year to champion international climate finance.
