SCIAF given £110,000 to help Venezuelan refugees in Colombia
The Scottish Government has given SCIAF £110,000 from its Humanitarian Emergency Fund to help us provide meals and food parcels to almost 11,000 people who have been driven out of Venezuela by political unrest.
Hyperinflation and shortages of necessities like food and medicine mean many refugees are in urgent need of basic support.
Through our local partner, Caritas Colombia, we’ll provide essentials such as warm clothing and basic hygiene items like soap, toothpaste and sanitary products. The aid will be delivered in specially equipped transit centres where migrants will also be given access to temporary accommodation and support to protect them from becoming victims of trafficking and exploitation.
It’s estimated over four million Venezuelans have left the country since the start of the crisis, with around half settling in Colombia.
