UK AID: We can’t turn our backs on the world’s poorest
The UK government has just announced plans today to u-turn on a critical Conservative manifesto pledge to protect UK aid spending.
We need you to take action now by telling the UK government not to turn our backs on our brothers and sisters at a time when the world’s poorest are already facing the double threat of coronavirus and the climate emergency.
We need to let key figures in the UK government know that breaking our promises to the world’s poorest is not acceptable.
If you’re on Twitter, please send one of the suggested tweets below to the Prime Minister, the Chancellor and the Foreign Secretary:
- Now is not the time to break a vital @Conservatives manifesto pledge to protect 0.7% spending on #UKAid @BorisJohnson. I stand with @sciaf and the world’s poorest who are already facing twin threats from coronavirus and climate change #nevermoreneeded
- The Chancellor @RishiSunak wants to make the world’s poorest pick up the bill for the cost of the pandemic. Just as we’ve looked after people in our country we should look after our global neighbours #SaveAid @sciaf
- Slashing the aid budget will damage the UK’s standing in the world and undermine our efforts to host a successful #COP26 in Glasgow next year. @DominicRaab vision of Global Britain is undermined by turning our backs on the world’s poorest #SaveAid @sciaf

We want to make as much noise as possible so, if you're not on social media, why not contact your local MP and ask them to write to Ministers on your behalf?
