The Crisis We Face
Janifer Maliseni is a Farmer in Malawi and a SCIAF project participant. She's experiencing the relentless impact of the changing climate on her crops and her livelihood.
“The water came during the night and flooded my home and field. Some houses fell down in the floods. We had to stay at the church. When we went back to look at our field we found almost all our crops had been washed away. When the water went away we could see that some of the plants remained but the maize did not produce, so we had no crops.
“We were also hit by the drought last year. We planted in December and our seeds sprouted but the rains stopped so they were destroyed. We then planted in January when the rains came for one week but then it stopped again so they were destroyed for a second time."
