Last September Hurricane Irma crossed the Caribbean, followed ten days later by Hurricane Maria. These storms caused huge damage and destruction, with the British Virgin Islands and Dominica particularly badly affected. Hurricane Maria alone caused more than £1 billion of damage across the island of Dominica, equal to 226% of its 2016 GDP.  Thousands of people across both countries have lost their homes and livelihoods. We’re working with our partner Caritas Antilles to support those most affected by the storms as they rebuild their lives.  Damage from the hurricane caused problems with water supplies, sanitation, food supplies, electricity, transportation, shelter, medical care and mosquito control. Funding from SCIAF helped provided 1,076 vulnerable families with money over a three month period so they could meet their basic food and household needs, and begin .
