Chronic instability, dictatorships and natural disasters in recent decades have left Haiti as the poorest nation in the Americas. In 2016 more than 900 people died when Hurricane Matthew hit the country. This followed the massive earthquake in 2010 which killed more than 200,000 people and destroyed vital infrastructure such as roads, schools and hospitals. We've helped to rebuild homes following the 2010 earthquake and are now providing emergency aid including food and shelter to women and people with disabilities. Working closely with local partners, we're also providing livestock to poor farming families and training so they can increase their harvests.
