Current projects:

Nicaragua has become one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere as it struggles to overcome the legacies of dictatorship, civil war and natural disasters. Poor harvests and the onset of climate change are making the lives of poor families even harder. We’re helping poor farmers to produce more food and store seeds for the next season - a vital lifeline if their crops fail. Young people are being taught the skills they need to become farmers, lobby government to change policies that affect their future, and pass on what they learn so others can benefit. Our work with local partners also includes helping to reduce violence towards people with disabilities by changing community attitudes and supporting children and adults with disabilities, and their families, with physiotherapy, wheelchairs, skills training, self-help groups and opportunities to earn an income.
