The Right Reverend Joseph Toal is the Bishop of Motherwell and former Bishop of Argyll and the Isles. He was ordained a priest of Argyll and the Isles in 1980 and after ordination served in South Uist, Campbeltown and Benbecula. He was on the staff of St Mary’s College Blairs before it closed in 1986 and was appointed as Spiritual Director at the Royal Scots College in Salamanca, Spain, in 1999, going on to become rector of the College. In 2014 he was named by Pope Francis as the fifth Bishop of Motherwell, having served as Bishop of Argyll and the Isles since 2008.
