SCIAF staff are on the run
19 May 2025

SCIAF staff will be putting their best foot forward on Sunday 25 May as they run part of the Edinburgh Marathon – relay style!
Nine SCIAF staff in total will be running on the day, each running different ‘legs of the 26.2 miles course. These ‘legs’ – the Royal leg, The Cock and Pan Leg, the Gosford Leg and the Glory Leg - are 8.3 miles, 5.5 miles, 8 miles and 4.4 miles respectively.
The marathon is also SCIAF’s contribution towards the “Relay of Hope,” a global moment at the end of May when organisations around the world are taking actions to draw attention to the global debt crisis.
SCIAF is running its "Relay of Hope" in Edinburgh, calling for cancellation of crippling debts which trap countries in cycles of poverty.
Maria MacNicoll, SCIAF's Supporter Services Assistant, will be running the 8.3 miles ‘Royal’ leg of the marathon.
She said:
“This year marks my 10th year working at SCIAF. Over the years I've had the immense privilege of working in our IHD team, seeing first-hand our programmes staff working with our partners overseas to create wonderful projects and making real change. None of this would be possible without our amazing supporters.
“Now, working in our Supporter Services team, I say almost every day, 'how lucky are we to have such dedicated and kind supporters?'. It's actually become a bit of a running joke counting how many times I say that when opening the post!
“Now it's my turn to raise a wee bit of money for SCIAF's work. My two wee boys, James and Joseph, have kept me motivated, waving me out the door to go for a run. It's been brilliant training with such a fab team, and it's definitely kept me going!”
