Daniel represents SCIAF at Caritas Europa conference

At the recent Caritas Europa regional conference in Chisinau, Moldova, a young SCIAF supporter, Daniel Timoney from Airdrie, travelled to represent us as part of a youth delegation.

Daniel is one of the founding members of the Caritas Cup initiative. Together with his school friends, he created the tournament as a way to bring their Catholic faith, sport, and communities together in the name of charity. They dedicate their valuable time to raising money for SCIAF and other important causes.

At SCIAF, we are incredibly grateful to everyone involved in the Caritas Cup. Thank you for your inspirational drive to help people around the world and for igniting hope through sport.

The conference brought Caritas organisations from across the continent together. Daniel was part of the youth delegation that aimed to project the voices of young people across Europe who work with Caritas.

This delegation and Daniel’s costs were covered by Caritas Europa.

Daniel said:

“It was a pleasure representing SCIAF as part of the youth delegation at the recent Caritas Europa Regional Conference. The trip gave me valuable insight into how the Caritas organisation works, and it was fantastic to learn of their projects across Europe.

"As a member of the youth delegation, it was our responsibility to share the perspectives of younger people. We took part in project visits - one of which was a children’s centre ran by a parish in Transnistria, a de facto region in Moldova. It was touching to see the work Caritas Moldova does to support the most vulnerable people, many of whom are Ukrainian refugees.

"The conference was fittingly closed with the announcement of Pope Leo XIV. We learned of his appointment during Mass, and it certainly brought everyone a lot closer together during the dinner that evening. Everyone huddled round screens watching the news from the Vatican.”
