An urgent message from Caritas Jerusalem
16 July 2025

“Lives are hanging by a thread. The world must not look away.”
That’s the urgent message from our friends at Caritas Jerusalem as Gaza and its people spiral deeper into chaos.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has reached an unprecedented level of devastation. After 21 months of war, we’re running out of ways to describe the horror.
As hostilities escalate and essential supplies remain blocked, every sector of civilian life is collapsing. Caritas Jerusalem is issuing an urgent appeal for international intervention to prevent further loss of life and human dignity.
Our Caritas colleagues, at great risk to themselves, continue to:
- run 10 medical points and a central clinic in Gaza City;
- provide psychosocial care for traumatised children and women;
- supply multipurpose cash assistance to help the most vulnerable meet basic needs.
The people of Gaza need an immediate ceasefire. The people of Gaza need to see a guarantee of unhindered humanitarian access and an immediate and massive upscaling of humanitarian aid through the UN and international NGOs. All hostages should be released and immediate measures taken to protect civilians, especially children and displaced families.
“Not a day passes without us thinking of our staff, risking everything to serve others. When will this madness end? When will the world recognize the sanctity of life? When will the people of Gaza live a normal life? Enough is enough.”
We are asking you to contact your MP and urge them to stand on the right side of history.
The current conflict in the Holy Land has stretched the Caritas network's ability to respond like no other.
The people of Gaza have withstood almost two years of intense conflict and a man-made humanitarian crisis.
