Join Young Caritas today for a better world tomorrow

At a time when our world is a pretty scary place, young adults in Scotland are being given an opportunity to put their faith into action. 

Young Caritas Scotland, launched by SCIAF, is a new national movement aiming to encourage young adults across the country to engage in the international work of the Catholic Church.

SCIAF is part of Caritas Internationalis, a network of Catholic humanitarian organisations spanning 200 countries, united in their goal of reaching out in love to people in the poorest parts of the world. These organisations have developed ‘Young Caritas’ in their own country, and SCIAF is now creating this in order to provide a platform for young Catholics here in Scotland. 

SCIAF’s Michael Hamilton said:

“Caritas means love and love is at the centre of everything we do for our sisters and brothers around the world.

“Young Caritas will give young adults to chance to speak up, take action and join a global family working to build a better world.

“Whether you are motivated by the war and devastation we see on our screens, climate change or social injustice, this can be a space for you to help shape how our Church can respond to these issues here in Scotland.”

Young Caritas has the backing of team behind the Caritas Cup which has organised charitable football and netball tournaments in the Diocese including Adam Costello, 22. 

Adam said:

“The Caritas Cup started as a game of football between two schools in Airdrie and Coatbridge. It then spread to multiple sports across many parts of Scotland and last year it even reached Rome.

“We support SCIAF due to the values instilled in us from a very young age. The values that resonate with people across our Diocese.

“We are so pleased to be involved in the launch of Young Caritas Scotland. It gives young people an opportunity that others places don’t and that’s the opportunity to take action.

“That’s what we love, being able to put our faith into action and see where we can make a difference. It’s being part of a community, where everyone is focussed on the same goals. 

“Being involved in Caritas has allowed us to see this work around the world, meeting with other Caritas networks and working with people from all walks of life. It’s a great community, which everyone should get involved in.  

“It really is one thing seeing what’s happening in the world on your phone or news feed. Young Caritas is a place where you can do something about it, take action and make your desire for change happen.”
