Celebrating Global Stories and Textiles is a free community arts event bringing people together through film, conversation, and textiles.

Join SCIAF for a free community arts event in Shettleston, including film, conversation and creative fabric design.

Suitable for adults and children aged 10+, each session will begin with a screening of SCIAF’s short documentary Dignity, sharing the experiences of rural smallholder farmers in Zambia. This will be followed by conversation and exploring Zambian chitenge fabric and Scottish tartan as “talking textiles” that can carry stories of identity, values, belonging and community.

You will then create your own fabric design inspired by your memories, stories and communities. You don’t need any art experience – you can contribute through conversation, written words, simple mark-making, or printmaking.

Each individual fabric design will be sewn together live on the day to make a shared artwork celebrating local and global stories and connections.

The event is free to attend, with a free crèche available for children under 10, to help parents and carers take part. Over 10's in the workshop must be accompanied by an adult.

Please note that you can only book a maximum of two crèche spaces per adult.

Places are limited and must be booked in advance via Eventbrite. Eventbrite allows you to book the crèche after registration.
