This resource explores the daily life of a young person living in Uganda and helps pupils recognise similarities and differences with their own lives. There is also an opportunity for pupils to respond in prayer and with faith in action.

Teachers notes include an introduction to Uganda, facts and stats on the country and an expanded case study. This resource is particularly useful for those taking part in the Pope Francis Faith Award, and a link to CfE Social Studies Level 2 is noted in the lesson plan.

@SCIAF P6b and P6/5 really enjoyed the workshop where we explored similarities and differences between our lives and the lives of some children in Malawi.

Using video, photos and illustration this resource encourages discussion and celebrates differences and similarities in communities around the world. SCIAF’s work is built upon the cornerstone of Christ’s teaching to love your neighbour and walk in solidarity with the poor and oppressed. We follow Jesus’ example in how He treated the people He encountered with dignity and respect.

If we go in search of other people, other cultures, other ways of thinking, other religious, we come out of ourselves and begin that beautiful adventure that is called ‘dialogue’.

- Pope Francis (21st August 2013, addressing students)
