In Ethiopia, women, girls and boys walk for hours under the scorching sun just to find it, risking their safety as they search remote, unsafe places.

Without water nearby, they are trapped in a cycle of poverty, spending their days collecting instead of going to school or caring for themselves. Communities suffer too – children miss lessons, disease spreads, livelihoods collapse, and hope withers and dies.

Often, the only water they can find is dirty - but they must drink it to survive.

Despite decades of progress in Ethiopia, war has torn families apart, extreme weather is destroying landscapes and livelihoods, and now international aid cuts risk further decimating vital services.

How your donation can help

£40

can give people access to clean water for drinking, sanitation and improved hygiene.

£240

can install a rainwater harvester at home, helping families collect clean water

£1,200

can bring water to a village though taps, wells and irrigation systems

However thanks to people like you, water is bringing life back to communities, helping women and girls get to school, and make sure everyone has the basic dignity of clean water. But our help doesn’t stop with water. Once they have the basics, together with our local church partners, we help families grow more food, rebuild homes, access healthcare, and send children back to school. By standing shoulder to shoulder with communities, we give young people like Hirit the chance to reclaim their lives and pursue their dreams.

Hirit's story

Hirit Hishe, Ethiopia

“Life before this was very difficult. We used to walk five hours just to get water. The place we fetched water from was unsafe – the cows and other animals drank from it. Even dead animals, like dogs, could be found in the water. Still, we had no other choice. We had to drink it.

“This tap has resolved so many problems, especially for girls like me. We used to go to school with dirty clothes and bags, and unwashed hair. But now we can stay clean.

“With water nearby, we have more time and can focus on our education. I want to pursue a career in business when I’m older.”
