You can make a difference
Donate nowIn southern Malawi, and across sub-Saharan Africa, a food crisis has taken hold and emergency supplies are low.
Fr Semba, one of our partners working on the frontlines of an unfolding hunger crisis in Southern Malawi, shared his experience in his parish, and his prayers of hope with us.
A snapshot into Fr Semba's work

"Every day I go from child to child, measuring their arms to check for malnutrition. For most of them, the indicator turns red, meaning they are severely affected.
"Here at the aid centre, the thing that strikes me most is the silence. It’s full of mothers and babies, but there is no atmosphere. Everyone is exhausted, hungry.
"I always look for those most in need and give them an emergency food package. But I can’t help everyone – that’s the worst part.
"It’s heartbreaking to witness the suffering, especially mothers with young babies."

Pray with Fr Semba
Loving God,
Look mercifully upon us, Your children in Malawi,
our fields cracked by drought,
our homes swallowed by floods,
our few belongings swept away,
our hearts worn thin.
Bless the generous work of SCIAF,
and all their generous supporters,
through their immense generosity,
may a mother’s hand find food to give,
and a child too hungry to cry, learn to laugh again.
Let Christ’s own compassion flow through this help,
turning our desperation into dignity,
our silent tears into grateful prayer,
and our little ones, from the brink of death,
back into life.
Amen.
Beyond the emergency
In communities across Africa, we train people and get them started with seeds and animals like goats to produce meat, milk and manure. We reach the most vulnerable, the poorest, the most in need, giving farming families a hand up to grow more food and start small businesses. This means people can generate a sustainable income so that they can afford food, clothes and shelter.
EMERGENCY AID IS RUNNING OUT. SAVE A LIFE TODAY.
Keep the people of Malawi and Africa in your prayers and if you can, please donate to our emergency appeal.

SCIAF stands ready to support partners affected by the Ebola outbreak.

While the ceasefire has taken the crisis off our TV screens, there continue to be massive humanitarian needs.

We’re already there when emergencies strike, and will be there long after others have left.
