Scottish Government Emergency Funding for South Sudan

1 October 2021

South Sudan

SCIAF is delighted to receive £120,500 through the Humanitarian Emergency Fund (HEF) from the Scottish Government to provide relief to those affected by the desperate food emergency in South Sudan.

The region is facing famine due to conflict, COVID, ebola, locusts and floods. The emergency funding will allow us to deliver vital food, seed kits, field crops and agricultural training to people with disabilities. It will also be used to provide advice on COVID awareness and prevention.

International Development Minister, Jenny Gilruth said:

We know that more than 7 million people, more than half the population, face hunger – and this is where the HEF can play a part. The Scottish Government is committed to fulfilling its role as a responsible and compassionate global citizen and this aid will provide essential help to those in desperate need.

SCIAF’s Chief Executive, Alistair Dutton, said:

We are proud to be a part of the Scottish Government’s HEF. With this funding, we will help people with disabilities in South Sudan receive the emergency food they desperately need.

Thanks to this funding provided by the Scottish Government, we will do all we can to help families survive this crisis and build a better future.
