Caritas Nepal are responding to floods

A large-scale response is ongoing in support of Nepal’s flood response from international donors, national governments and the Nepalese authorities own resources.

As part of this, our colleagues at Caritas Nepal are on the ground responding to the devastating floods, working closely with government authorities, local communities and partners. The team is prioritising those highly vulnerable families that have been displaced as the floods wash away their homes, providing emergency food, essential household items, clothing and medicines. Given that many families are sheltering in the open and further rain is expected, tarpaulins, sleeping mats and blankets are also being considered as priority relief items.

Community kitchens have been established, providing meals for families, while ongoing search and rescue continues with people who remain in high-risk areas taking shelter in safer elevated locations, but many affected communities remain difficult to reach because of damaged roads, bridges and communication networks.

The thoughts and prayers of the SCIAF family are very much with the people of Nepal.
