Act in Hope
What are Acts of Hope?
This Lent, we’re asking you to offer up as many Acts of Hope as you can as part of your Lenten practice. Your Acts of Hope could include changing what you eat, how you travel, or how much you waste during Lent, to show your solidarity with those living at the forefront of the Climate Emergency, and protect our Common Home here in Scotland.

Choose your Act of Hope
By getting involved in our Acts of Hope challenge, you are reminded that each of us has a role to play in tackling the Climate Emergency – but it is only by coming together in compassion that we can build God’s Kingdom here on Earth.
Here are some ideas to get you going, or pick your own!
- Eat in Hope
To make a positive change, why not Eat in Hope by committing to a vegetarian diet for all or some of Lent, or by only buying local or organic products for 40 days?
From farm to fork, the food we eat has a significant impact on our Common Home. Whether that is through the production of greenhouse gas emissions from the meat and dairy industries, or the pollution of our soils through chemical fertilisers, the world food system is a major contributor to the Climate Emergency. - Travel in Hope
Why not Travel in Hope and commit to taking public transport, or walking, cycling and running to work this Lent?
In the UK, transport is responsible for more carbon emissions than any other sector. By changing how you travel this Lent you can help reduce congestion, improve air quality, and make a positive local change to a global problem. - Reuse in Hope
This Lent, Reuse in Hope by giving up single-use items such as coffee cups, or go further and commit to not buying any new non-essential items, such as clothes or electronics.
By not buying new, not only will you save money which you can pop into your WEE BOX, but you’ll produce less waste and lessen demand on manufacturing and logistics which all contribute to climate change. - Donate in Hope
By giving a regular donation this Lent, together we can help change the lives of families across the world, helping people grow more food, heal their local environment, and provide a more secure income for the future.
Regular donations, however big or small, support our work at the forefront of the climate crisis. Donate in Hope during Lent with a weekly gift to SCIAF using our new Lenten recurring card payment.
